Challenges

  • The 6MW SO2 Blower operate 24/7 to draw exhaust air from the Copper Converter Blows which operate in a batch process. The annual coal cost to operate the SO2 blower is US3M p.a.

Goals & Objectives

  • The primary objective was to design and implement an energy efficient SO2 blower system with a target 75% energy saving reduction by matching operation of the 6MW blower motor only when then copper converter operates which requires the turning off of the motor during non-batch converter processes.
